What Are Flat Feet?

Most babies are born with flatfeet and develop arches as they grow. But in some kids the arch never fully develops. Parents often first notice this because their child has what they describe as “weak ankles” (which appear to turn inward because of the way the feet are planted). Flat feet in very young children do not usually cause problems. In fact, most babies are born flat footed and their arches develop as they grow. In some children, the arch does not fully develop which can result in foot pain.

How Are Flat Feet Treated?

Your podiatrist may suggest treatment if your child is complaining of pain due to flat feet. Sometimes, doctors of Ryan Foot and Ankle Clinic may prescribe inserting arch supports into your child’s shoes to ease foot pain.
